Midnight Rugby Tournament was played over June 14 and 15, 2013 with Helsinki Rugby Club hosting clubs from Finland, Russia and Estonia. Over the next two days almost 40 matches took place.
The ladies competition was healthy with the hosts development paying off as two HRC teams took part along with Warriors as well Moose on the Loose, a team made up of players from as far afield as Switzerland and Dubai, that toured Botswana in 2012 playing rugby and taking part in community activities.
The ladies played two rounds of matches against each other, with finals played on Saturday. The stars of Moose on the Loose won the title with a hard fought 15-10 win over Warriors RC.
Although turnout was down on last year in the men’s division the competition was tight. Two teams - Young Guns and Old Groove - bought together players from many clubs in Finland giving players a chance to play with people other than their usual team mates.
The pitch side sauna proved as popular as ever and the weather was great as the finals got under way.
Old Groove didn’t prove difficult for Kuopio RC, taking the Wooden Spoon. Estonian team Vikat won the Baltic Cup beating HRC 15-5 in the final.
Warriors RC featured in the men’s and ladies Baltic Plate finals with the women being beaten 15-10 by Moose on the Loose while the men went one better, beating Young Guns 15-5
